Before we hit the record and publish buttons, let's first get setup for success by covering a few topics so that you can feel comfortable, be prepared, and sound the best possible.
From start to finish, here is what you can expect before, during, and after the podcast recording. The goal is for you to feel prepared and excited for the discussion as well as comfortable with the final product.
Get Scheduled
Once we have a time set, you will receive a calendar invite that includes either a Zoom link for remote recording or a street address for in-person recordings.
Recording times are set for ONE (1) hour, however if we wrap early, no problem!
Hit Record
Every conversation is unique because every guest has unique insights and stories to share. So we don't use a script. If there are main topics you want to make sure we cover, note that in the planning page below. Same goes for any topics you want to stay away from. Things come up naturally sometimes and I will work to keep us on the path. Main thing is to relax and have fun! You are about to help someone and you probably won't ever get a chance to know just how much.
Review & Approve
You'll receive a draft audio & video* version of your episode via a shared folder and an unpublished YouTube link, along with an anticipated launch date.
Give it a listen/watch and let me know if you have any concerns before publishing (sometimes it happens).
*If we didn't record a video version, you won't receive a video link
Launch!
Once the episode launches, it will distribute through all of the main podcast platforms (Apple, Spotify, Google, Amazon) and then some. If we did video, it will launch on YouTube and Rumble. Video can launch up to a week after the audio podcast.
The podcast cover image and possibly short clips from the episode will be shared on social media (Instagram, FB, X, and LinkedIn).
Let us know in the onboarding form where to tag you! Any tag-backs to @SkilledDad are always appreciated!
If you have something specific to share or a specialty that you focus on, we want to know! Make sure you lay those out in the guest form below.
Sometimes things come up in the moment and small rabbit trails can be beneficial. We don't want to come too far off though, so having ideas of what you want to share can help.
We recommend coming prepared with a couple of stories from your experience as a dad, in leadership, etc. We also recommend thinking about three pieces of "dadvice" that you would impart on someone else.
Bullet points are good. No written speeches needed. The key is to help organize and feel confident!
Your story is powerful. Let's make sure they can hear it! Have some basic equipment and a good space can make a lot of difference. Here a few basic tips to get you ready.
Get Out What You Put In
Audio quality is everything with podcasts and video. If it doesn't sound good, is staticy, muffled, or echoey, the listener won't want to listen for long.
If you have access to a decent microphone, please use it. Bluetooth connect mics will work if you have those.
Hear Better. Sound Better.
Having headphones can be especially helpful when recording remotely. This will help ensure you can hear the conversation well, while also avoiding your microphone from picking up extra audio from your computer speakers.
If you are meeting live, don't worry. I have it covered.
Have a Quiet Surrounding
If you don't have a dedicated space you already work in, consider having a quiet surrounding to help avoid outside noises from interupting your thoughts.
While most small sounds can be removed in the editing process, big ones can be tricky.
Its Time To Shine!
Sometimes the red record button has a way of hitting our internal pause button. If you don't do many podcasts and this happens to you, don't worry, you aren't alone.
Once we get into the conversation, you'll forget all about it.
If you are nervous, I recommend eating some salty potatoe chips before we record. Sounds wierd, but it actually helps to remove dry mouth and nerves. Bet you can't each just one!
We are excited to sit down with you soon and start building together!
